Maybe we could mention that newer cars are more and more like computers and have all these tech "additions" and "features" for safety that might be diverting to the older driver. Then, could we ask the speaker to touch on those issues...such as having to glance at the dashboard screen for map direction and that you can plug in your smart phone and get them by voice thru your radio in the care, which might be safer. We have a friend with a new Prius, and he is frustrated by the fact that the screen is a touch screen that he has to look at, with no knobs that he could reach for without taking eyes off the road.

Tech for drivers is a great subject? ?I know my friend with a Tesla has had a lot to learn.I have a dash cam for older cars which photographs back and front Continualy and gives warnings.

Barb....I meant could we ask the September speaker to include something about Seniors using all these new tech gadgets and features in newer cars and how to learn about them before driving off.then the topic would be more consistent with GGCS identity, as Chris asked about. Do  you want to consider that, or should i just ask the Gulds?  I haven't seen anything like it on their web site descriptions of what they're doing in classes and workshops. bb

I understand, but our CHP has already a set ?two hour speech, which he will be reducing to one hour.I will urge him to emphasize technical things but I am not optimistic that he can change.Also the subject of Tech driving is ever growing.Barb

I think this will be well worth it.  Getting advice from CHP on how to deal with today's driving and aging.  There are no set requirements that the subject has to be directly related to technology.  We are providing information that can help our members.
Also, can you please check to make sure we can record the presentation for our YouTube channel.

If we can find someone that can talk about all the tech in new cars that would be awesome.  Not sure who would be qualified or even willing to do it but this would be a great topic.  I'm sure some of our members might be in the market for a new car and could benefit from this.

?Age Well - Drive Smart? is a very successful statewide CHP program to give seniors the skills to continue driving as long as possible. Officer Andy Barclay will cover:



?         Myths and stereotypes about elderly drivers

?         Compensating for age-related changes, the effects of visual impairments, lack of sleep and medications.

?         Refresh your rules of the road and learn new safe driving tips.

?         How to make use of new car technology; car adjustments you should make.

?         Dealing with blind spots, tailgating, dangerous intersections, lane changes and left turns.

?         Adjustments such as daylight-only driving, non-freeway driving, non-rush hour driving, fair weather only driving.

?         When is it time to give up the keys?

?         Life after driving: Maintaining an active lifestyle when driving is no longer an option. Other senior transpiration and mobility options such as family or friends, public transportation, paratransit, taxi services, bicycle, walking.



Pre-Meeting: Come early to hear Linda Siegel from Technology4Life talk about photo management with iCloud photo library from 6:00 ? 7:00 pm.

Maybe we could mention that newer cars are more and more like computers and have all these tech "additions" and "features" for safety that might be diverting to the older driver. Then, could we ask the speaker to touch on those issues...such as having to glance at the dashboard screen for map direction and that you can plug in your smart phone and get them by voice thru your radio in the care, which might be safer. We have a friend with a new Prius, and he is frustrated by the fact that the screen is a touch screen that he has to look at, with no knobs that he could reach for without taking eyes off the road.

I think this will be well worth it.  Getting advice from CHP on how to deal with today's driving and aging.  There are no set requirements that the subject has to be directly related to technology.  We are providing information that can help our members.
Also, can you please check to make sure we can record the presentation for our YouTube channel.

If we can find someone that can talk about all the tech in new cars that would be awesome.  Not sure who would be qualified or even willing to do it but this would be a great topic.  I'm sure some of our members might be in the market for a new car and could benefit from this.

I understand, but our CHP has already a set  two hour speech, which he will be reducing to one hour.
I will urge him to emphasize technical things but I am not optimistic that he can change.

Tech for drivers is a great subject?  I know my friend with a Tesla has had a lot to learn.

I have a dash cam for older cars which photographs back and front Continualy and gives warnings.

Babette. See if the Guilds have any thing on these subjects for Oct GM.

?         How to make use of new car technology; car adjustments you should make.

Tech for drivers is a great subject? ?I know my friend with a Tesla has had a lot to learn.
I have a dash cam for older cars which photographs back and front Continualy and gives warnings.?Babette. See if the Guilds have any thing on these subjects for Oct GM.?Thanks,Barbara

I think this will be well worth it.  Getting advice from CHP on how to deal with today's driving and aging.  There are no set requirements that the subject has to be directly related to technology.  We are providing information that can help our members.
Also, can you please check to make sure we can record the presentation for our YouTube channel.

If we can find someone that can talk about all the tech in new cars that would be awesome.  Not sure who would be qualified or even willing to do it but this would be a great topic.  I'm sure some of our members might be in the market for a new car and could benefit from this.

?         How to make use of new car technology; car adjustments you should make.

Tech for drivers is a great subject? ?I know my friend with a Tesla has had a lot to learn.I have a dash cam for older cars which photographs back and front Continualy and gives warnings.

Barb....I meant could we ask the September speaker to include something about Seniors using all these new tech gadgets and features in newer cars and how to learn about them before driving off.then the topic would be more consistent with GGCS identity, as Chris asked about. Do  you want to consider that, or should i just ask the Gulds?  I haven't seen anything like it on their web site descriptions of what they're doing in classes and workshops. bb

I understand, but our CHP has already a set ?two hour speech, which he will be reducing to one hour.I will urge him to emphasize technical things but I am not optimistic that he can change.Also the subject of Tech driving is ever growing.Barb

I think this will be well worth it.  Getting advice from CHP on how to deal with today's driving and aging.  There are no set requirements that the subject has to be directly related to technology.  We are providing information that can help our members.
Also, can you please check to make sure we can record the presentation for our YouTube channel.

If we can find someone that can talk about all the tech in new cars that would be awesome.  Not sure who would be qualified or even willing to do it but this would be a great topic.  I'm sure some of our members might be in the market for a new car and could benefit from this.

?Age Well - Drive Smart? is a very successful statewide CHP program to give seniors the skills to continue driving as long as possible. Officer Andy Barclay will cover:



?         Myths and stereotypes about elderly drivers

?         Compensating for age-related changes, the effects of visual impairments, lack of sleep and medications.

?         Refresh your rules of the road and learn new safe driving tips.

?         How to make use of new car technology; car adjustments you should make.

?         Dealing with blind spots, tailgating, dangerous intersections, lane changes and left turns.

?         Adjustments such as daylight-only driving, non-freeway driving, non-rush hour driving, fair weather only driving.

?         When is it time to give up the keys?

?         Life after driving: Maintaining an active lifestyle when driving is no longer an option. Other senior transpiration and mobility options such as family or friends, public transportation, paratransit, taxi services, bicycle, walking.



Pre-Meeting: Come early to hear Linda Siegel from Technology4Life talk about photo management with iCloud photo library from 6:00 ? 7:00 pm.



The meeting is open to the public at a cost of $5.00 for visitors (pay at the door by cash, check or credit card). You get free admission and a raffle ticket if you join the club at the event ($48/yr.).
