Age Well - Drive Smart: How to Keep Your Driving Freedom as You Age
CHP Officer Andy Barclay
“Age Well - Drive Smart” is a very successful statewide CHP program to give seniors the skills to continue driving as long as possible. Officer Andy Barclay will cover:
· Myths and stereotypes about elderly drivers
· Compensating for age-related changes, the effects of visual impairments, lack of sleep and medications.
· Refresh your rules of the road and learn new safe driving tips.
· How to make use of new car technology; car adjustments you should make.
· Dealing with blind spots, tailgating, dangerous intersections, lane changes and left turns.
· Adjustments such as daylight-only driving, non-freeway driving, non-rush hour driving, fair weather only driving.
· When is it time to give up the keys?
· Life after driving: Maintaining an active lifestyle when driving is no longer an option. Other senior transpiration and mobility options such as family or friends, public transportation, paratransit, taxi services, bicycle, walking.
Pre-Meeting: Come early to hear Linda Siegel from Technology4Life talk about photo management with iCloud photo library from 6:00 – 7:00 pm.
The meeting is open to the public at a cost of $5.00 for visitors (pay at the door by cash, check or credit card). You get free admission and a raffle ticket if you join the club at the event ($48/yr.).
